My aunt, Gerrie Groenevelt-Sein, researched the Sein family tree in the seventies. With her permission, I put all her data into my database and did additional research from sources which have become online since then. Via the emigrants database of Arend Everts (www.drenlias.nl), I found out that nieces and nephews of one of our ancestors had emigrated to America.
Hendrik, Aaltje and Hendrikje Seinen travelled from Overijssel, the Netherlands to Ottawa, Michigan in 1851. According to Arend Everts, Hendrik and Hendrikje were married to Geertjen and Hendrik van der Kolk, which I discovered to be their cousins. Aaltje was married to Jan Willem Nijkamp and their sister Janna appeared to be deceased. However, Janna’s name turned up in church records on Luann de Vries’s web page, so I began to suspect that Janna had not passed away, but that she was alive and well, had emigrated with her siblings to America and married Jan Hulst jr. in Ottawa.
I am especially interested in the Seinen family, but I would also like to know more about the descendants of the other three families. In order to keep this research under control, I will exclude families with the same names that bear no direct relation to the Seinen family.
If you are related to the Seinen family or to one of the other families mentioned, please contact me via email. It will be a great help, if descendants are willing to share their information with me. I hope that we can exchange data soon, as I am in the process of translating the information.
Naturally, I will respect people’s privacy, which means that I will not publish any information on living family members or against anyone’s wishes.
